No Magnificent 7 For The Devils

The Cardiff Devils 6 game winning streak was ended last night by the Dundee Stars and an outstanding performance by Travis Fullerton between the pipes. Fullerton faced 38 shots in total during the match and conceded only once.

The Dundee Stars were again short benched with only 14 skaters plus their 2 netminders. Their Coach, Omar Pacha was one of their 14 skaters.

The in-form Devils travelled to Dundee last night hoping for a magnificent 7 game winning streak but found themselves trailing after only 4 minutes and 37 seconds of the game.

That was the only score during a very evenly matched first period in which both sides fired off 11 shots.

The Devils started the second period well but the writing was on the wall when just 4 minutes and 32 seconds in, the Stars had doubled their lead.

The Devils were given hope with 14 minutes gone in the second when new D man Tyson Strachan managed to poke home the loose puck after scrambling in front of Travis Fullerton’s goal. Fullerton faced an amazing 14 shots to his opposite numbers 6, in the middle period.

Going into the third period the Devils will have had their eyes on the prize and would be looking to turn the game on its head and make the journey back to South Wales with the points in the bag. They would have believed that the Dundee netminder would not be able to hold them off all night. Despite this, with only 2 minutes gone in the final 20 minutes, the Devils found themselves 3-1 down and this proved to be an unassailable advantage.

Despite laying siege to Fullerton’s goal they could not make the breakthrough. With time ticking on during the period frustrations began to kick in with the Devils giving away penalties and with them any chance they had to snatch victory.

The Cardiff Devils will look to bounce back on the weekend when they entertain Fife Flyers. Meanwhile, the Dundee Stars Head Coach Pacha should be mightily proud of his team as despite being short benched for two consecutive games, they have managed to dispose of two of the league’s big guns as they inflicted defeat on Belfast Giants on the weekend before putting the Devils to the sword.
