#JDWPL Standout players of 2017/18 – Bala Town: Jordan Evans
In what has been a topsy-turvy season so far for the Lakesiders, one of their most consistent performers has been left back/winger Jordan Evans. Having joined from Wrexham in the National Conference League, and having been a youth player at Fulham previously, he came to Bala Town with something of a reputation as someone with bags of talent, but who could progress and become a key player for Colin Caton’s side.
The first phase was something of a mixed bag for Bala Town, who started the season with 2 wins and 1 loss from their opening 3 matches, before going on a poor run which saw them claim just 1 point from 4 matches in September. At the start of October, pressure was really starting to rise after a disappointing 1-0 loss against Bangor City at Maes Tegid left the Lakesiders battling at the wrong end of the table. Their next match against Newtown was already looking like a crucial fixture if Bala were to remain hopeful of reaching the Top 6 and challenging near the top of the table, and sure enough, they got the win. Evans, was playing on the left side of midfield, and put in a phenomenal man of the match performance, grabbing a brace as the Laksiders ended their poor run of form with a confident 3-1 win.
With that performance, there was a growing sense that Colin Caton had unearthed a hidden gem in the 22 year old, who followed that performance up with a solid display as they hosted Barry Town United, before scoring his 3rd goal of the season with a goal of the month contender against Carmarthen Town as the Lakesiders got revenge on the Old Gold with a 1-0 win at Richmond Park.
As Bala Town were beginning to find their form, they began moving up the table, and have only drawn 2 and lost 2 since, finishing 4th and level on points with Bangor City in 3rd place heading into Phase 2. With their upturn in form, Evans has established himself as a key player for Bala Town, and a crucial player as they aim to challenge for a European place in the remaining fixtures.
